Devin Lee Harjes
July 29, 1983 – May 27, 2025

Devin passed away on May 27, 2025, in New York City at the age of 41.

Born in Lubbock, Texas, on July 29, 1983, Devin was raised just outside the city in the heart of West Texas. His life began with the rhythm of hooves and the open plains—just three days after he was born, his father carried him and his sister on horseback. That early bond with animals and the rodeo spirit stayed with him and later became the unlikely but perfect foundation for a life in the performing arts.

Devin studied acting in college and launched his career in the vibrant Dallas–Fort Worth theatre scene, earning praise for standout roles, including his portrayal of Billy Bibbit in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Inspired and encouraged by this success, Devin made the bold move to New York City, where he pursued his passion with grit and dedication.

In New York, Devin immersed himself in the craft of acting, performing in off-Broadway productions and student films. His talent and perseverance led to award-winning roles in independent films such as The Forest is Red—for which he earned Best Actor at the Tolentino International Film Festival in Italy—and The Boyz of Summer, where he received Honorable Mention for Best Supporting Actor at the Long Island International Film Expo.

Television audiences will recognize Devin from his debut as the legendary Jack Dempsey in Boardwalk Empire, and from memorable appearances on Gotham, Orange is the New Black, Daredevil, Elementary, Blue Bloods, FBI, and Manifest.

Outside of acting, Devin was a dedicated student of martial arts and a regular at the gym—he often joked it was safer than getting kicked in the face by a horse.

Devin is survived by his loving parents, Randy and Rosanne Harjes; his sister Trish Harjes and her husband Justin Kelley; nephews Tristin and Sawyer Kelley; nieces Rory and Charly Kelley; his former wife Shiva Shobitha; his beloved cat, Maude; and countless friends whose lives were brighter…or at least more entertaining…because of him.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to TKC Blessings in Devin’s name. All proceeds will support scholarships for children pursuing the arts—Devin’s true passion in life.
